Newer doesn't always mean better
Thursday, November 27, 2008
I recently saw the new logo change for Pepsi, all I can say is... what were they smoking when they decided to change the current one...
 The new Pepsi logo
I don't even need to show you current one anymore unless you've been living under a huge rock (no offense to cults living under a huge rock).
The change is pretty subtle from it's current logo, which is quite understandable since the current one is figuratively burned on the consumers minds already. That's the thing though, why change so little to a very well known brand image that would cost your company literally millions and millions of dollars. They aren't fooling anyone if they say they wanted to make it fresh or hip since it's still like the old logo with just a distorted white "swoosh" that anyone with basic Adobe Illustrator skills can do in minutes.
 Packaging
Things noticed based on the images were:
1.) What's up with the white "swoosh" changing on different Pepsi products? Does it mean that the diet Pepsi is slimmer because it won't make you fat, and the pepsi MAX one was "maxed" out? because if it is, it actually ain't cheezy at all. *cough* sarcasm *cough*
2.) mtn DEW? RIGGGHT... Youngsters in our country are already having a hard time to write traditionally because of the whole "TXT Speak" thing, so why not support it even further by turning Mountain Dew to Mtn DEW!
3.) The new Pepsi bottles resemble a wrinkly McWeiner.

I've got my eyes on you
Tuesday, November 25, 2008
I've been reading and watching a couple of tutorials on how to make vector art for quite a while now *but never got the chance to make one until earlier today.

I used my own portrait as base and applied a slightly grunge approach rather than the clean sleek look commonly seen in other vector artworks. It's obviously not the best vector "evar" created but I'm personally satisfied with the outcome of it.
In a nutshell, - vector art name: "I've got my eyes on you..." - tools of the trade: Adobe Photoshop CS3 - time took to finish it: the whole day (it's my 1st time to do one) - trait needed other than talent: patience... and lots of it.
* - was actually just really lazy

The new blog layout is brought to you by the letters F, U...
Sunday, November 23, 2008
And by a friend whose identity I will conveniently conceal as "Jepoy".
Appreciate the helping hand a lot, definitely owe you one. Uhm, perhaps some Maria Ozawa "educational" videos could make up for it? even though Tina Yuzuki pwns her, wink! wink! =P

3 times a charm?
Saturday, November 22, 2008

As of this writing, I went to LTO (Land Transportation Office) for a total of 3 times in different branches since I started driving. So far aside from falling in line with a bunch of people and lots of red tape (which is a common sight here if an establishment is being run by the government) in their offices I could say all 3 experience were somewhat a quirky experience for me.
The very first time I went there (still a teener back then), they gave me a PRO license for some reason. It means I could drive any land transportation vehicle even though I didn't even learn how to drive them. There was supposed to be a hands on test wherein we get to drive an owner type jeep but instead, I heard one of the LTO guys say "Ginamit ata yung jeep e, pinambili ng tanghalian natin" (English translation: The vehicle was used to buy our lunch, I think). So I was like, RIGGGHT. I never got to actually drive but they still passed me so it's all good.
The second time around, I didn't realize that my license expired a couple of years earlier (I was lucky enough though, to never get caught during those times). So I had to retake each step again. They took my physical, urine and eye tests in which by that time my eyesight was starting to become real poor (damn old age). I literally was just saying the letter "D" on the snellen chart over and over and still passed it for some reason. Next was supposed to be the hands on exam, there were literally a lot of people at that time and so they said that they couldn't accommodate every applicant (I was like, RIGGGHT. All over again) and was instructed to go to the written exam instead. Funny thing is in the room where we were taking the exam, the walls are posted on with almost 85% of the answers in the test questionnaire. Hell, you could even stand up during the test to go closer on the answers and the proctor wouldn't give a damn as long as you weren't "noisy". What really topped it off though is when my seatmate still asked for some answers. I was like, is this guy for real? All he had to do was tilt his neck from left to right. I finished the test, waited for the result and of course got the passing grade. Some others still failed though, and at that point all I could do was scratch my head in disbelief and just looked at the bright side that I personally passed and had a valid driver's license again (which sadly wasn't a PRO license anymore dammit).
Third time was just a couple of weeks ago. I made it sure this time that my license wouldn't expire and went early, accidentally forgetting to bring my ballpen. I then thought it's alright, they must have pens in their office anyways since filling up forms is the majority of what you'll do there. When I arrived, I was handed a form as expected but didn't find any pen in my immediate sight. I finally saw one near a glass window and swiftly took it, a voice suddenly spoke "Sir, hindi po ballpen yan" (English translation: That's not a ballpen sir.) I looked at it and it indeed wasn't a ballpen, It was the pen that register electronic signature on your license. Good thing an LTO worker lent me her ballpen and said that they stop putting out pens since it was just being stolen. I then filled up my form and went in the physical exam room, all I could say is that whoever interior decorated the physical examination room should be shot in the face. I took the snellen chart again (this time I wore my glasses, so I wouldn't say the letter "D" over and over again). Immediately located at the left side of the snellen chart is where both the male and female comfort rooms for the urine tests were, and directly beneath the snellen chart is where the lavatory for washing of hands after taking a piss is at. So while I was reading the chart, I had to pause several times because someone suddenly washed after doing his deed and his head was blocking the chart I was reading. In addition to that, when it was my time for the urine test they told me that the males are asked to keep their door opened so the proctor can see if you might pull off the old switcheroo if you're drinking or smoking the "good stuff". It's quite understandable, but adjacent to the comfort rooms is where the electronic fingerprinting happens. So if the ones having their electronic fingerprints tilt their heads they can easily say hello to your McWeiner. At that point I was like, it couldn't get any worse than that. But boy was I wrong, when it was my time for electronic fingerprinting, on the same window were my hands were placed is were all the urine bottle samples (some of which is even dripping) are being placed before they test it. Very unhygienic noh? So again, whoever interior decorated the place, kudos for a very swell job sir. I salute you! *cough* sarcasm *cough*
It'll be a little while again 'til the next one (2011 to be exact) but I'm already not looking forward to it.

My 1st experience...
Thursday, November 20, 2008
The "New Xbox Experience" that is (what did you expect anyways). I recently downloaded the mandatory update for my white box just a little while ago. My 1st impression right of the bat visually was that it looks slightly sleeker than the tried, tested, and now obsolete blades of the old dashboard.
 The Dashboard
The new avatar is a nice addition especially for those customizing junkies but might feel slightly gimmicky for others just to rival the Mii's and the forever delayed HOME and it's avatars. (don't know if MS avatars will evolve into something more interactive down the road though)
 My Avatar
The new background themes are somewhat bittersweet, since you can still use your old background themes from the old dashboard and now have the option to put your very own custom wallpaper as your background. To do this just go to your picture library then select your portable device where you placed your custom background image, highlight it then press button "Y" in your controller. What makes it bitter is that with all that has been said, there is a silvery thingee that covers half the screen almost the entire time for you to not fully enjoy your old or custom added backgrounds unless you have a strange fetish for badly cropped images caused by that silvery thingee contraption.
The best features for me personally are:
1.) Netflix. if your a movie buff, the small price for streaming thousands of videos (even some in HD) is a steal.
2.) You can now delete games from the games played list that has no achievements. To do this just press the controller guide button, go left to the games section and choose achievements. from there choose the games with zero achievements and press "X" button do delete it.
3.) You can now install and play your games on your hard drive. Which means good bye to dirty disk errors and hello faster load times!
The new dashboard might take me a little while to get used to, but it's still a pleasant experience overall nonetheless.Labels: gaming

Unleash your inner... frustrated rocker!
Wednesday, November 19, 2008
If you prefer rock music as your primary genre and wants to live the dream of being a rock star but have limited or no skills in playing real music instruments other than the maracas, then the Rock Band games (PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, Wii) and Guitar Hero: World Tour (PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, Wii, PC, MAC) are definitely the games for you.

It lets you create a fake band, jam with fake musical instruments and you can even fake battle-of-the-bands against other players. Hell, if you're a showman you can even record your bands performance on video and upload it on a fake TV named YouTube. The games are at their high point when you manage to have a complete band (composed of a vocalist, 2 guitarists: lead and bass respectively, and a drummer) because nothing beats blaming the weaker link human players when your band fails.

I find the song list on the games to be very decent. With a balanced mixed of songs from rock legends and contemporary rock artists (Thank God no Emo or Jonas Brothers songs made the cut). Even though these games are all about faking it, it's still undeniably fun and can still very well tap and unleash the inner frustrated rocker inside of you without the worry of long road trips, drugs, or STD's. Now if only they could incorporate fake groupies next time around.Labels: gaming

Ladies and gentlemen please, would you bring your attention to me...
Thursday, November 6, 2008

Due to the persistence of some friends, I finally decided to jump in the "blog-wagon". The blog and my entries in it would normally focus on personal works, hobbies, interests, recommendations, views, and misadventures.
Don't expect any emo-like posts though, because I believe that any self respecting man should solve his problems on his own and in no way should cry out in the "internetz" for sympathy from anonymous readers just to make himself "feel good".
The fugly default layout currently seen will of course be updated in the coming days.Labels: personal, site-updates
